Infant & Homeschool Classes

Art, Baby & Me - MWF - 9:30 - 10:15 AM Art Classes for Parents with Infants. Safe and nurturing calm creative time for caretaker & baby (non-toddling). Call 281-687-5381 with questions or click here to register online.

Homeschool Program

Art Inspirations - MWF 11:45 - 12:45 (6 wks) Elementary age children will combine art and move-ment to create inspiring works of art and learn the ba-sics of color and technique. Students will use a variety of mediums including clay, watercolor and acrylic.

French Culture & Impressionism - MW - 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM (6 wks) Middle school students will learn about French language and culture including counting, colors, family members, foods, animals, body parts and songs. They will also study French Impressionism & Expressionism using a variety of mediums & techniques including watercolor, acrylic & clay. All classes will end with an Art Gallery Exhibition.

After School Program Elementary

Art of Color - Fridays - 4:30 - 5:30 PM (6 wks)
Art Classes for Elementary students. These active art classes will focus on color dynamics and theory. Students will explore color using a variety of mediums including clay, watercolor, collage and acrylic.

Art of Miniatures - Fridays - 5:45 - 6:45 PM (6 wks)
Art Classes for Middle and High School students. Students will explore the world of minature art using a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, clay and natural & recycled items.

2014 - Imagine and Discover Art and Dance Summer Camp

irish bannerDay 1 - Monday, July 21st - IRELAND
Campers will learn to River Dance & Irish Jig from Ms. Allison. Ms. Christy will lead an enchanting craft project building Fairy & Leprechaun Houses/Catchers, and instruct students in the fine art of Watercolor in a Rainbow themed painting. Students will explore Irish folklore and history and play Mr. Fox, Pot of Gold and other Irish Games.

bollywood bannerDay 2 - Tuesday, July 22nd - INDIA
Campers will discover the new dance moves of Bollywood as well as learn some Indian Folk Dances. They will create Tie Dye Pashmina Art and colorful Indian Mandala designs. They will learn about India and Bollywood and the play traditional Indian games such as Snakes & Ladders and Latoo’s (spinning tops).

southern usDay 3 - Wednesday, July 23rd - Southern US
Even natives will learn something new on Southern US day as we study Clogging & Square Dancing f days gone by. We will create Corn Husk Guys and Dolls play southern games like Jax & Hopscotch.

Back by popular demand! Students had so much fun at last years camp learning to hula and limbo that we are bringing it back with a study of the Islands of Polynesia and the Caribbean. We will learn to Salsa and create Under the Sea Art, String Lei's and have an end of session Luau party in celebration of Island Life.

 Japanese Ink "Sumi-e" Painting - Students will be introduced  the traditional Japanese style of painting with water & the four  treasures, ink, brush, stone and rice paper.


 

Beginner Origami - We'll learn the ancient, joyful, Eastern art of paper folding

Asian Mask Paper Mache Kabuki Mask Making -  We'll create theater style Kabuki & Noh man masks using paper mache.

2013 - Summer 2 - "Imagine & Create Art & Dance Summer Camp" :
Mon - Thurs. July 8th - 18th

waterworldWeek 1 : July 8 - 11 "Waterworld - Luau, Atlantis & Pirate/Princess"

Learn to Hula, Limbo and paint underwater hands and feet paintings, explore the underwater world of mermaids in Atlantis and have a Peter Pan pirate and princess adventure. Create a treasure box.

rockWeek 2 : July 18 - 15 - "Rock of the Ages" - 50's, 60's/70's & 80's

Party at a 50's Sock Hop, make record art, do the Hustle and create a Groovy Psychadelic Poster and do Graffiti Art get 80's Dance moves.

2013 Spring 2 - "Live to Draw"

This session, students will learn drawing techniques including human figure drawing, facial feature and portrait drawing. We will also study the infinity architecture and tessellations of the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher.
Students will work with a variety of mediums, including charcoal, pencil & watercolor. They will complete 3 final pieces during this 6 wk course.

2013 Winter/Spring 1 - Art from the Ages" - pt.2

This session, students will continue to study artists from the turn of the 19th century, including Post Impressionist Georges Seraut (father of pointillism) through more modern abstract artists from the mid to late 1900’s, including Fauvist Henri Matisse & American Pop Artist Andy Warhol. Students will work with a variety of mediums, including acrylic on canvas, collage work and graphic design and will complete 3 final pieces of artwork during this 6 week course.

Fall 2012 - "Art from the Ages" - pt. 1

Pollock Miro

This session, students will study artists from the turn of the 20th century, such as Vincent Van Gogh and the more modern abstract artists of the mid 1900's such as Joan Miro and Jackson Pollock. Students will work with a variety of mediums, including acrylic on canvas, collage and clay. They will complete 3 final pieces during this 6 week course including an acrylic on canvas, an abstract sculpture in clay and a post impressionism collage inspired by Van Gogh. Summer 2012 - "Art. Dance. Love."

Students will be inspired by dance and create jazz silhouettes, Hip Hop Collages and Degas Ballet Impressionism. Mixed media.

Summer 2011 # 1 - "Yard Art Creations - Journey in Mosaics"
Students will learn the art of casting, working with stone, mosaic tile design and grout work.

Scrapbook of Course, Intro to Profile Drawings, Clay Coil Pottery, Color Wheel Creation, Elements of Design, Outdoor Painting (acrylics/impressionism)

Fall 2010 - "Moonlight, Magic & Mythical Creatures"

Students will explore the themes that have inspired artists since the beginning of time. We'll review fairy tales and folk lore art & be inspired by artists such as John William Waterhouse, Maxfield Parrish, Edmund Blair Leighton & Edward Robert Hughs, using a variety of medium's including watercolour, collage, acrylic & wax etching. The class will end with an Art Gallery Exhibition.

Spring Spanish Inspirations - Intro Painting Class (Feb. 9 th - April 6th, 2010)- Students will be introduced to & inspired by Spanish Masters such as Diego Rivera, Frieda Kahlo, Pablo Picasso & Salvador Dali using a variety of mediums & techniques. We’ll cover art history & study a new artist every two weeks. Students will create a group mural in this class. The class will end with an Art Gallery Exhibition. Fall After School "Clay Works - Back in Time"

Ancient Art of Pottery - We'll learn the art of ancient art of pottery creation using natural clay & ancient preservation techniques

Egyption Name Hieroglyphs - Students will design and create name plates or Cartouches in clay.

Roman/Greek Sculptures - We'll study the old masters of sculpture in the Greek age and recreate our favorite works.

Jewelry Making - Students will learn about Native American Culture and create clay bead work and jewelry

Dino-Scapes - We'll travel back in time to the pre-historic age. Children can let their imaginations soar as they
design , sculpt and paint three dimensional scenes of their favorite dinosaurs & environment.

Fall Homeschool Coop - French, Ballet & Impressionism/Expressionism

Francais -11:00 AM - Noon (by Kingwood Language Academy)
Children learn a dynamic mix of French language and culture in an active classroom environment. Students will learn counting, colors, family
members, foods, animals, body parts and songs, in addition to French

Students will have a one- hour class of ballet barre, technique,
terminology, & lyrical dance. There will be a studio performance for the

Spring II Session 2009 - A Nature Adventure: The Circle Life - Classes begin April 15th.

There is something very special about creating art when nature is all around you.

Life Cycle Sketches - We'll learn sketching techniques as we explore four ecosystem displays of forest and wetland habitats, amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates, and a mural on the life cycle of butterflies.

Sand Art & Sky/Water Color - We'll make sand art creations and let the open sky and rolling waters inspire us to paint realistic sky and water scenes as we take in Peach Creek at LH Park.

Nature Adventure (journaling/scrapbooking/sketching) - We’ll walk the beautiful trails of magnolias and create a nature journal documenting trees, plants and wildlife we experience.

Clay Tracking - Students will recreate animal tracks/fossils in clay and learn about casting & preserving fossils and animal tracks.

Circle of Life Mandala - We’ll gather things from nature and create a mandala to represent the circle/cycle of life. The mandala or "circle with a center" pattern is the basic structure of everything God created. It is a pattern found in nature: in flowers, the rings found in tree trunks and the spiraling outward and inward of a snail's shell, biology, the universe and beyond.

Spring I Session 2009 Curriculum -Painting with the Masters

Expressionism/Surrealism - Students will express their feelings as they learn about and develop the techniques of Expressionists like Van Gogh, Munch & Surrealist Dali.

Impressionism
- Students will learn about light and compostion as they get to know the masters of impressionism & practice the techniques of Monet, Degas & Renoir. "IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING IN THE PARK" - Wed. Feb. 4th & Fri. Feb. 6th CLICK HERE more info

Italian Renaissance - Students will learn to create Fresco's over their heads like Michelangelo did on the Sistine Chapel.

Fauvism - Students will learn how to create design using only paper, scissors and glue like Henri Matisse (who was forced to abandon his passion of painting when he became disabled, but some of him most famous art were these works - i.e. Icarus)

Culinary Arts - Students will learn the fine art of cake decorating as they create materful works of art inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night and Henri Matisse's Icarus.

Holiday 2008 Curriculum*

Organic Carving & Sculpture - Students will consider and design centerpieces inspired by gratitude.

Figure Drawing -
Students will learn to sketch the human figure using live models and figure dolls. Final piece to be executed in charcoal pencil.

Tile Mosaics -
Children will recycle broken tile to create their own mosaic designs. Lesson will be about how broken things (and people), with help and support can again be made useful and beautiful. Final pieces will make great holiday gifts.

Holiday Ornament Creation - Students will use a variety of mediums to create a personal gift ornament inspired by the holiday season and what it means to them

Holiday Gallery Exhibition - Students will exhibit their work and discuss their inspirations and journeys. They will also help design the event festivities, refreshments etc.

Fall 2008 Curriculum

Student Progression Still Life Sketch/Watercolor: Kids will draw and paint a subject as they see it upon entering the class, and then again upon exiting the class. (LESSON: Countouring, Perspective, Realism, Light/Dark, Shading. MESSAGE: WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE). Click here to see an example student progression.

End of the Rainbow Mural Creation: Kids create a multi- layered banner sized group mural painting on canvas (LESSON: Team Building, Patience & Decision Making/ Abstract Expressionism and designing on Canvas. MESSAGE: ALL GIFTS COME FROM GOD)

"What I Like About You" Still Life Modeling : Kids will use modeling clay to create their representation of classmates/teachers & what they appreciate about them. (MESSAGE: friendship, inner beauty, diversity. LESSON: CREATION & GOD'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE)

Fall Festival Feast Celebration : Kids express themselves and learn creative culinary skills to create special treats. Children will also have the opportunity to design and perform a theatrical expression that they create for the celebration. (MESSAGE: Setting goals, sharing & community. LESSON: THANKSGIVING)

(Additional Friday less - time permitting) Creation Adventure: Children gather leaves, flowers and natural materials to press & dry and create a unique artistic creation (MESSAGE: Find beauty in the natural world around you & be kind to & respectful of your environment. LESSON: GRATITUDE)
